Wellfleet Investments’ activities also include structuring and placing financing for private and public enterprises; institutional and retail investments and selected mutual funds; and project financing for electric generation and other major industrial facilities. Current interests include hydrogen related research and development and a fertilizer facility located in Illinois.

Prior to founding Wellfleet Investments, Mike Zarin was at various times Vice President and Manager of the New York public finance office of a major commercial bank, an investment banker (limited partner of a major Wall Street firm) and head of The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Finance Division, Law Department.
He also is directly responsible for the development and documentation of billions of dollars of public and private project financings. One of those projects was the World Trade Center. He has served as an advisor to the Debt and Fiscal Policy Committee of the Government Finance Officers Association and initiated the Association’s Disclosure Guidelines for Municipal Securities, arbitration panel chair for the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board, Chairman of the Law Committee of the International Bridge, Tunnel & Turnpike Association and participated in the President’s Private Sector Study on Cost Control. His articles on public finance and municipal bonds have appeared in The Bond Buyer and other publications. As a Great Neck School Board Trustee he acted to raise the school district’s financial rating from Baa to Aa. He initiated the Endowment Fund, served as chair of the Investment Committee and is an honorary trustee of Temple Beth-El of Great Neck was chair of the Investment Committee of the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He has participated in many other local community activities, including service as president of a community group that initiated a successful housing development for seniors and the handicapped and on the board of the Great Neck Chamber of Commerce.
Mike is a director of the Boscov’s Department Store chain and of several entrepreneurial firms including HSM Systems, Inc., a Canadian research and development corporation.
He is a graduate of Dartmouth College, Columbia Law School and the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program.
Mr. Bega has over 30 Years’ experience in the financial services industry. Mr. Bega is registered with FINRA as a Financial & Operational Principal, a General Securities Principal and a General Securities Representative.
During his career Mr. Bega has served as Chief Financial Officer and later as President of HSBC Brokerage USA. In addition, Mr. Bega has served in various Relationship Management, Enterprise Sales, and Consulting capacities. Mr. Bega has closed transactions in excess of $50 Million during his career. Mr. Bega’s skills include Investment Banking, Financial Reporting, FINRA regulations, strategic planning, Financial Modeling, and structuring of major transactions.
Mr. Bega serves as a certified FINRA Arbitrator and Chairperson. He has ruled on over 20 cases and continues to be called upon to serve as a panel member.
